Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?
There are wicked tongues that claim that a certain Mr Kellogg is to blame for breakfast being described as the most important meal of the day. Here and now it should not matter whether one is more inclined to believe producers of breakfast cereals or modern fitness gurus who are increasingly speaking out against a meal in the morning.
For us there is no question: breakfast with us at the Lagació is a feast for all the senses. A celebration of a new holiday day in Alta Badia. An ode to the farmers and producers of the region and their excellent organic products. And: it is the grand entrance of breakfast chef and jack-of-all-trades Hermann Dapoz. We met our master of early morning delights for a coffee and asked him a few questions that have probably been on the tip of your tongue.
Good morning Hermann, would you like to introduce yourself and tell us something about yourself?
Good morning! I am from Campill and have been working here at the Lagació for almost 12 years. I am a proud father of an 11-month-old boy and my passions are mountaineering, climbing, cycling, ski touring and ice climbing. When I'm not cooking, I'm a mountain rescuer, firefighter, hiking guide and carpenter. I built a few things here in the breakfast room!
Tell us, Hermann: as a breakfast cook, do you have to be an early riser per se?
Of course it's an advantage to be an early riser. I like the working hours very much because I don't have to work in the afternoons and evenings, so I have a lot of free time for my hobbies and my family.

What is your favourite dish to serve our guests?
We don't call our breakfast "gourmet breakfast" for nothing. Because such an excellent selection of organic and local products is really something special. It goes without saying that there is homemade bread and cakes, homemade jam, cheeses and yoghurt from organic mountain farmers, a large selection of different egg dishes, fruit and organic juices. In addition, there is also a special dish every day, such as porridge, waffles, pancakes or poached eggs with avocado. I especially like to prepare these specials.
Special requests can't upset you, can they?
Absolutely not! After all, we offer a gluten-free breakfast to all those who have an allergy or food intolerance, as well as lactose-free products. At Lagació Morning Coffee, you can choose between hay milk, organic oat milk, almond milk, rice milk or lactose-free milk. If you want to do this in peace and quiet and enjoy your breakfast alone, you can order your morning meal directly to your room via our website. What I would also like to emphasise is: we hardly use any packaged products. Everything is fresh and as plastic-free as possible. That's good for the environment too!
Now we want to know - what do you personally eat for breakfast?
On normal working days I don't eat much breakfast, a fresh loaf of bread with jam and a coffee is enough for me. When I'm on holiday myself, there's nothing better than a healthy, quiet breakfast enjoyed without a time crunch. A good breakfast in the morning banishes all worries!
We can only agree with that! We sincerely thank Hermann for his time - and his delicacies, which he conjures up for our guests every day (not only in the morning, by the way).
