Dolomites Bike Day

Sunday, 16.06.2019

A bike tour in the heart of the Dolomites - UNESCO World Heritage site, is the fulfilment of almost every cyclist’s dreams.

Since 2017 Alta Badia and Arabba/Livinallongo contribute a little bit to the realization of this dream with the Dolomites Bike Day, the car-free day on the passes Campolongo, Falzarego and Valparola.

At the non-competitive cycling event, every cyclist can take part free of charge and without inscription, no matter how fit or how old she or he is. The Dolomites Bike Day is just the perfect occasion to ride some of the legendary stages of the famous roadbike event Maratona dles Dolomites and of the Italian bicycle race Giro d'Italia.

The circular route, amidst fascinating natural landscapes, leads through some of the most attractive roads and well-known Dolomite passes in South Tyrol and Veneto. Starting from Alta Badia you cycle to Corvara and up to the Campolongo pass where you ride down to Arabba and Livinallongo. Here you climb the Falzarego pass and the Valparola pass - one of the most fascinating sceneries in the Alps - from where you reach again Alta Badia by cycling downwards to San Cassiano. From San Cassiano you ride to your starting point.

The route has a total length of 52 km and a total difference in altitude of 1.370 meters.

We recommend to ride in anti-clockwise direction.

At 2.750 meters above sea level, a 200 meters long bear's cave was found in 1987. The cave contained fossilised skulls and bones. Investigations revealed that the Conturines bears were a new species that had never been recorded before, they were called "Ursus ladinicus", the Ladin bears. In order to reach this unique cave, you have to overcome 1.000 meters of high altitude crossing in part a steep scree slope.
